IRC

We can always be reached on Freenode in room #pctacm.

IRSSI

Irssi is or IRC client of choice, and is best run when run from our server. When using windows, access the server by using PuTTy using the address ‘acm.pct.edu’. If you are using Linux, Unix, BSD, or a Mac; you can access the server using the ssh command.

Usage

To create a screen session:

screen irssi

Once in, connect to freenode:

/connect irc.freenode.net

Then connect to #pctacm:

/join #pctacm

If you wish to change your nick:

/nick newNickName

To register your nick name:

/msg nickserv register password

To identify (”log in”):

/msg nickserv id password

To close irssi without quiting (so you can log in later):

Ctrl + a, Ctrl + d

To reconnect later:

screen -r

Other hints

If you want each nick to appear in different colors:

/run nickcolor

Highlight any line that your name is mentioned in. This can be used with words other than just your nick, also, if others like to abbreviate your nick, you may want to put that in instead.

/hilight nick

Mark yourself away every time you detach from your screen session. When you reattach, if any line was directed toward you, or if something you set to highlight was mentioned, it will be dumped onto the first window when you reattach.

/run screen_away

  • Software “piracy” is illegal and despite well known methods of obtaining “pirated” goods, our IRC channel is accessible to anyone on the Internet and therefor easily viewed by copyright holders. DO NOT discuss “warez,” “crackz,” or anything else that infringes on an author’s copyrights.
  • Respect the channel operators, they are here to enforce these rules and keep the room functional. No one likes to be the one to ban someone, but sometimes it has to be done. So please, think before you speak.
