Already addressed ideas

CounterStrike: Source

  • Run updated version of CS.
    • Someone would need to approach me with the CDs, including the Linux server files. — daneva76 2006/10/16 13:58
  • Make it so people can bring theyre own computers and laptops to play.
    • We don’t do this because it levels the playing field for everyone. — keyand57 2006/10/01 13:57

Enemy Territory

  • Delete etkey file from the image.
    • Done. When no etkey exists on H: one is generated automatically. — daneva76 2006/10/16 13:58
  • Figure out and fix system freezing and shutting down - loss of all XP
    • I haven’t heard any complaints about this from the last LAN party, but if anyone has issues with CS freezing in 206 let me know. — daneva76 2006/10/16 13:58
  • Symlink etkey to H:\ drive so even if the computer locks up, the student will be able to save their XP.
    • The etkey file is now saved to H: upon exiting ET. If H:\etkey exists it is used for the key. — daneva76 2006/10/16 13:58

Unreal Tournament 2004

  • Get the UT2k4 server running off of the ACM server.
    • This was completed as of today, just need to move files to the correct location. — keyand57 2006/09/30 22:30

Room Selection

  • Find a better room than 208 for the games. Suggestions?
    • 235, 236 — keyand57 2006/09/30 22:32
      • Dropping 208, adding 235 and 236. — daneva76 2006/10/01 17:17

Game Selection

All games added to this list must meet the following requirements:

  1. Cannot require a cracked client or server to play on a LAN.
  2. Must comfortably run on computers in ATHS labs.
  3. Must have a decent user base.
  • Add a rotation of other games such as the free F.E.A.R multiplayer, Farcry, Quake 4, Warcraft III, Rise of Nations, Battlefield 1942, Jedi Academy
    • the only problem this might make is too little people playing one style of game. also I believe jedi Academy runs w/o a disc if you boot the game with the jedi-multiplayer.exe (or equivelent) and does not run on a cd key.
      • I have the same exact fear. We want to create big matches for our existing games, plus there just doesn’t seem to be enough interest in FEAR, Jedi Academy, or America’s Army yet. The other games will not work as they are either not suited for a LAN Party (WoW) or unable to be played without a license key. — daneva76 2006/10/16 13:58
    • F.E.A.R might push the systems, unless ran in dx8 rendering and shaders on med. (Lusty Muffins)
      • I believe this to be the case as well. The computers we’re working with do not, with the exception of 207, have high end graphics cards, and 207 is already being used by UT2004. — daneva76 2006/10/16 13:58

Other

  • Sell Energy drinks, such as Bawls. http://www.thinkgeek.com/interests/bawls
    • There would not be enough interest in paying top dollar for energy drinks when we’re selling soda at 50 cents a can. We can not get volume discounts on energy drinks like we can with soda. — daneva76 2006/10/16 14:12

New Ideas

CounterStrike: Source

  • Fix the CS server so it works off of the ACM server.
    • Work is being done on this and it should be ready in time for the 10/27 LAN.

Enemy Territory

  • Advertise the fact that the ET server is up and running to practice or scrim on - maybe start a PCT scrim team? to compete against other clans?

Unreal Tournament 2004

  • Skins and models for better customization of players. heard many complaining about wanting models, I have about 30 new ones from various game and movies and tv shows that are ready for inclusion.
    • Email them to me. — keyand57 2006/10/16 15:34
  • Try and make the UT Server and the ET server run on different processors. I heard that the UT server started to lag as more and more people were on the server.
    • I’m not an expert in this area, but it looked like they were. — keyand57 2006/10/18 13:33
    • It seemed like they started having problems when they had more than a certain number of players. No one was able to tell me just how many this was. I have lowered the max players from 32 to 24, as I have read that this is a more stable number. — keyand57 2006/10/18 13:33
      • I’d prefer no limit whatsoever. We should find out what we need to support all of the potential players. — daneva76 2006/10/18 21:52
        • As would I, but with the current computers and server hardware, it doesn’t seem feasible. Maybe we could run two instances of the server. — keyand57 2006/10/18 22:32
  • Add the latest patch to the image for Unreal Tournament 2004 (v3369). Without the patch the game crashes when getting in vehicles.
    • Is this for all rooms, or just some rooms? — keyand57 2006/10/28 12:29
      • E235 and E236 need it for sure. I think the other rooms are ok.

Middle Room

  • Can we get specific room assignments for DDR, Guitar Hero, and the consoles that show up? DDR and Guitar Hero draw a big enough crowd to warrant separate rooms, and there was a minor issue with sharing the one room where the Xbox 360’s networking worked with Guitar Hero. — bryben93 2006/11/14 15:12

DDR

  • This needs to be run all night long. We had issues at the 10/13 Lan party with this. — mccaar56 2006/10/16 15:05

Guitar Hero

  • Very popular. Attendees play this all night long as well. — mccaar56 2006/10/16 15:05

Consoles

Other Suggestions

  • Is PCT Police leaving the doors unlocked? We should find out beforehand which doors will be open all night and notify potential attendees. — daneva76 2006/10/16 22:39

Advertising

  • We need to put the LAN Party flyers on fluorescent paper. Also we need to make sure they are located in every building on campus. — mccaar56 2006/10/16 15:49
    • If Student Activities does the duplication for us, we can choose the color paper. You’d have to talk to Toby about committing to this though. — daneva76 2006/10/18 21:53
  • We should try to get some flyers taped up in the hallways of the 2nd floor ATHS, or at least somewhere new. — daneva76 2006/10/18 21:53
  • During our initial merger talks, Dr. Miller mentioned the idea of obtaining a computer to display ACM announcements and the like in the form of a window display. This is something that would be a unique advertising method. I know that E207a has multiple extra LCD screens, and a decent window location. — keyand57 2006/10/18 22:35

Food

  • Energy drinks? — mccaar56 2006/10/16 15:50
    • Already answered, see above.
  • Some students were prepared to buy pizza but no announcement was made post-sign in. We should announce inside each game that we’re ordering pizza at X o’clock and give them the opportunity to come up and order some. — daneva76 2006/10/16 22:39
    • I guess that could be my fault. At the time of ordering, we had more pre orders than any time in the past, so I had assumed that everyone who was going to pre order, had done so. I will make sure to announce better for next time. — keyand57 2006/10/16 22:46

To-dos: Police

Call (570)327-4760 to get police to keep doors open

To-dos: Computers

Make sure the computers are imaged
