2/17 LAN Plans

Remaining Questions

  • Gallahad: Can we use the projectors for the XBoxes and DDR? (Evan)
  • Gallahad: Can we open another lab if we run out of space? (Evan)
  • Student Activities: Can we borrow a stamp or wrist bands? (Evan)
    • They do not have either. — keyand57 2006/02/15 16:00
  • Student Activities: Do they have a lock box for the fundrasing? (Evan)
    • The closest that they have is a cash drawer. — keyand57 2006/02/15 16:00
  • Police: Can they leave the side door and main door open?

Features

  • Four computer games playable in any of the three computer rooms (Enemy Territory, CounterStrike, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Starcraft)
    • This creates the potential for a 50 player CS match.
      • What is the max players for CS?
  • Dance Dance Revolution in the middle room.
  • Halo on networked XBoxes using the projectors as screens.
  • Statistics on Enemy Territory and Unreal Tournament 2004
  • Soda at $0.50 a can and pizza at $1.25 a slice.

Goals

  • Beat the 63 person head count from the previous LAN Party.

Fundraising

  • Soda will be sold at $0.50 a can, provided we can find it that cheap at Giant or Wegmans, and will need to be placed in a cooler full of ice.
    • Wegmans has Coke products as three 12-packs for $10 ($0.28 a can) and W Cola as two 12-packs for $5 ($0.21 a can).
  • Pizza will be sold at $1.25 a slice. Dominos will charge us $25 for 5 pizzas with 8 slices in each. That will give us a profit of $5 per pizza before tax and tip.
  • While the soda will be availble immediately, the pizza will be purchased as needed.
  • If we anticipate needing change, we can hit up the change machine in the BCC before the event.
Perhaps we should bump it up to $1.50 a slice if we have to consider tax and tip. — daneva76 2006/02/11 13:29
See if we can strike a deal with a pizza place for a lower price if we order say 10 pizzas or more.
If we do end up ordering extra, we can always sell that to those who didn’t preorder. — keyand57

If people are going to prepay, how will we record this? — keyand57

Sign in Table

  • Andrew has created a form for signing people in available here.
    • The form will be loaded on a laptop computer that Andrew will monitor. This gives us one extra seat in the labs as Andrew will have to use his own laptop.
    • We’ll need to find a laptop for the sign in form to be run on. If we cannot borrow one, we can use mine.
  • Ryan is working on an AUP, available here, for the event that participants will agree to when they sign in.
    • This document will have to be approved by Gallahad Mallery and Ron Miller.
  • We’ll need either a hand stamp or bracelets to keep track of who has signed in and who hasn’t.
  • The table will be placed by the door to the middle room so that it’s relatively centered within the event.

Game Specifics

DDR

  • Middle room (215)
  • Blake has confirmed that he will bring DDR, but he will have to leave a few hours early.

XBox

Might have a safety issue with cables in the hallway. Maybe general services has those plastic humps that you put over floor run cables.

The plastic humps that general services has is overkill for one or two cat5 cables. — keyand57 2006/02/11 15:30

Starcraft

  • Ryan will provide the install for anyone who wants to play.
  • Only playable in a single room. (E208)
  • 4 people have emailed me saying they were willing to play if the Broodwars expansion is used. Ryan is going to look into this.

Enemy Territory

  • Ryan is taking care of setting the ET server up so that most changes are done through the vote system.
    • We need the following changes:
      • !warn enabled.
      • vote_allow_poll enabled for votes on uncommon things (panzer party).
  • Starting room - E208

CS

  • We’re looking for someone to set up the CS server on a PCLUG account so that the game can be played from any room.
  • ATHS E206

UT2k4

  • Andrew is modifying the server based on the suggestions received from the last LAN.
  • Starting room - E206 or 7? — keyand57

Advertising Methods

    • with LAN Party “cards” (paper cut to the right size)
  • College Radio Announcement
